Football Foundation PlayZone Community Consultation

Georges Park currently benefits from having two Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs), which were installed in the park in 2001, over 20 years ago.

Since then the MUGA’s have been used by the local community for sports and activities and have been a popular feature in the park.

In 2021 we managed to secure some funding to carry out light refurbishment on the MUGAs, however we have continued to look at ways we can further improve the facilities.

We are at the very early stages of consultation for a bid to upgrade our current MUGA’s with funding from the Football Foundation PlayZone Programme.

What is a PlayZone?

PlayZone is an exciting new investment programme aimed at tackling inequalities in physical activity and access to facilities by funding community-led spaces.

Using investment from the Premier LeagueThe FA and the Government through Sport England, the PlayZone Programme aims to engage with local communities across the country to create outstanding sports and activity spaces and tackle inequalities in participation.

The national funding partners have significantly increased investment to accelerate efforts to deliver more and better football facilities for the grassroots game.

What are the features of a PlayZone?

Some of the features of a PlayZone could include:

  • Free to use, session led and activated by community or fee charged for exclusive use
  • Enhanced football and basketball facility
  • Upgrade to existing MUGA(s)
  • Enclosed space where users can play in a safe environment
  • Organised sports including football and basketball development activities for the local community

The list above is some of the features in existing PlayZones, community consultation will be carried out in order to get direct feedback from park users.

How can you get involved in the consultation?

We are asking for as many park users as possible to get involved in the early stages of the consultation, so we can ensure community feedback in taken on board if the bid for a PlayZone is successful in Georges Park.

Initially we need you to complete this short questionnaire: https://forms.office.com/r/X6t8DHx446

This will be followed by face to face consultations with the local community and park users. We will keep you updated as things progress with the PlayZone.
